Visit London
Images is the image resource centre of Visit London. It is a
specialist online photographic library offering unique images of London and
London life. Whether you work in tourism, publishing or design we hope you'll
find just what you're looking for amongst our range of high quality,
contemporary lifestyle and location images.
High
resolution images
‘High
resolution images’ is the term usually given to images that are of a good
enough quality for print. This usually means that the image is A4 in size at a
resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch); although an image’s suitability for
print also depends on the density of the pixels. For example, an image with 72
dpi can still be considered high resolution if the pixel density is high.
Lightbox
A
‘lightbox’ is an area in which you can keep images that you have found but
don’t wish to order immediately. Lightboxes are different from shopping
baskets in that they allow you to store and edit selections over a period of
time without fear of losing your work because the computer has crashed, the
network failed, you have inadvertently quit your browser application or simply
had to browse another site before completing an order. For more information
about lightboxes, please visit the about the site section.
Low
resolution images
‘Low
resolution images’ is how we describe images that are of a suitable quality
for use on the web or for electronic presentation, but not for print. This
type of image is likely to have less than 300 dots per inch and less pixel
density. Our low resolution images are 600 pixels on the long side at 72 dpi.
Strategic
partners
Strategic
partners are organisations who have a special working relationship with Visit
London. Examples of our strategic partners are VisitBritain, the London
Development Agency, Greater London Authority, London Councils, London
Boroughs. Other charitable bodies, such as the National Trust, are also
considered in this category.
Travel
trade
Tour
operators, hotels, bed & breakfast establishments and attractions all fall
within the user category we call ‘travel trade’.
Travel
trade press
Travel
magazines, in flight magazines and the travel sections of the national papers
tend to make up what is known by Visit London as ‘travel trade press’.
